Sports Injuries
Sports injuries are most common among sports players and athletes. They can also occur during exercise or other athletic activities which may or may not be sports/games. The range of severity of a sports injury can differ from an acute injury that is suddenly caused due to immediate trauma, or from a chronic injury that can develop and also worsen over time. Most common types of sports injuries are fractures, dislocations, sprains, knee injuries, ligament tears, among others. Sports injuries mainly affect the network between the muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones and other surrounding tissues.
Minor Sports Injuries
Minor sports injuries can be treated by the patient at their homes itself by icing, elevating, and compressing the injured section. Based on the severity of a major sports injury, the patient may be set up for physical therapy and rehabilitation or in some cases also need to be given a brace or plaster to wear until the injury heals completely. Primarily sports injuries happen at the various joints of the human body like the shoulders, knees, elbows, ankles, etc. Sometimes the doctor may also prescribe some anti-inflammatory medicines along with painkillers to help the patient fight the pain he/she may be experiencing because of the sports injury in question.
Who can get Sports Injuries?
If someone doesn’t follow exercises according to their proper techniques or ends up overtraining themselves can cause the person to incur a sports injury. Additionally, people who don’t wear shoes that may not provide as much support to sustain the body’s weight can also cause a sports injury. People who have been out of shape for quite some time and begin rigorous training immediately.

A sports injury is diagnosed after the doctor performs a physical diagnostic exam on the patient to determine whether their symptoms are indeed that of a sports injury. They will also check around the and run some smaller diagnostic tests to check the range of motion that the patient has in the affected areas. Based on the severity of the patient’s symptoms and overall condition, the doctor may also recommend the patient to get some imaging tests like X-ray, CT scan or at times even an MRI done for better and more visual understanding of the patient’s injury.
A sports injury that is minor in nature can heal within a few weeks and sometimes also without any medical attention. But sports injuries that are major in nature will always need medical attention and may also take up to several months to completely heal.
